About

Sandy Flat Campground occupies a scenic stretch of the Lower Kern River at 2,350 feet elevation in Sequoia National Forest. The campground features 35 family sites arranged in a single loop among large boulders, relics of the ice age scattered throughout. Six of these sites are walk-in only. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with paved roads and paved site pads throughout. The Lower Kern River provides excellent recreation opportunities directly from camp. Trout fishing is popular along this stretch, and the Hobo Fishing Trail offers a short walking path along the water. River wading and floating attract visitors during warmer months, with local outfitters available for whitewater rafting when spring runoff increases water levels. The campground is operated by Rocky Mountain Recreation under a USFS concessionaire permit. Sites are limited to 24 feet in length, making this campground better suited for tent camping and smaller RVs or trailers. Quiet hours are enforced from 10 PM to 6 AM. Pets are welcome on leashes no longer than 6 feet.
