About

Emigrant Group Campground is a reservable group facility located on the south side of Stampede Reservoir within Tahoe National Forest. Situated in a forest of ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine, and fir trees, the campground provides ample shade and easy access to the reservoir's recreational opportunities. The four group sites cater to different party sizes: Woodsman and Prospector accommodate up to 50 people with 15 vehicles allowed, while Rancher and Trapper handle groups of up to 25 people with 8 vehicles included. Each group site features a central cooking and picnic area equipped with a large campfire ring, approximately six picnic tables, and four grills. Horseshoe pits are available at the Woodsman site. The campground has accessible vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. A dump station is located about half a mile west, and a boat ramp with trailer parking is approximately half a mile away. Stampede Reservoir offers excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, and kokanee salmon. The nearby Overland Emigrant Commemorative Trail provides hiking and mountain biking opportunities. Non-street legal OHVs must be trailered from the campground to reach OHV trails.

Directions

From Truckee, travel east on Highway 80 for 10 miles to the Hirschdale Road exit. Follow Hirschdale Road/Stampede Dam Road north for 8 miles to Stampede Reservoir. Turn left on Dog Valley Road to cross Stampede Dam. The campground is on the left in a quarter mile.
