About

West Lake Campground is located 48 miles northwest of Fort Collins in north-central Colorado, adjacent to West Lake near the village of Red Feather Lakes. The campground occupies a ponderosa pine forest at 8,200 feet elevation, though some sites have reduced shade due to mountain pine beetle tree removal. Sites 1-5 are walk-in tent-only sites without electricity; the remaining 31 sites offer 15-amp electric hookups. All sites include a picnic table, fire grate with grill, tent pad, and bear locker. The 25-acre West Lake is a no-wake lake restricted to hand-powered, wind-powered, or electric motor boats. Anglers fish for rainbow and lake trout. The 1.5-mile West Lake Trail and 4-mile Mount Margaret Trail offer hiking nearby, and several OHV trails are within five miles. The village of Red Feather Lakes provides limited dining, general stores, a post office, and a golf course. Parking spurs range from 35 to 80 feet depending on the site. Tents must fit on provided pads, and all vehicles must remain on the parking spur. Bear country protocols apply: keep a clean camp and store food properly. Fire restrictions may be imposed during dry conditions.

Directions

From Fort Collins, drive 21 miles north on US Highway 287 to Livermore. Turn left (west) onto Red Feather Lakes Road (County Road 74E) and continue approximately 21 miles. The campground entrance is on the right.
