About
Cooper Creek Campground is nestled along the banks of Cooper Creek in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in the North Georgia Mountains. The campground features two loops with fairly spaced campsites providing good privacy, making it ideal for both weekend getaways and extended stays. The recreation area is renowned for year-round trout fishing in Cooper Creek and Mulky Creek, with anglers able to fish along the main creek or explore numerous trails that follow the stream banks.
The campground offers access to nearly 8 miles of interconnected hiking trails ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. The Yellow Mountain Trail is the longest at 3.2 miles, while shorter trails include Mill Shoals Trail (0.9 miles), Cooper Creek Trail (1.7 miles), Shope Gap Trail (0.6 miles), and Connector Trail (0.4 miles). The Duncan Ridge Trail is also nearby for more challenging hikes.
Cooper Creek Campground sits within the 30,000-acre Cooper Creek Wildlife Management Area, which offers hunting opportunities for deer, bear, turkey, and small game. The trails wind through diverse forests including hardwood, mixed pine and hardwood, and white pine and hemlock stands. Note that there is no cell phone coverage in this recreation area.

From Blue Ridge, GA: take US 515 north for 4 miles to GA Hwy. 60; turn right and go 2 miles to Morganton, GA. In Morganton, turn right on GA Hwy. 60 south for 15.5 miles. Turn left on Forest Service Road 4, go 6 miles. From Dahlonega, GA: take GA Hwy. 60 north for 26 miles; turn right on Forest Service Road 4, go 6 miles.
