We are monitoring the potential for a coastal storm around Thursday of this week. There is high uncertainty with the track of the storm as it could be anywhere from the Yukon Delta to Bering Strait. Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be a storm that would come with major impacts. However, there is a chance for minor coastal impacts and high surf due to gusty southeast winds during the first half of the storm, then west-northwest winds as the low passes through. We will continue to update as necessary throughout the week.

Important Notice: Siding Replacement Project to begin at Northwest Arctic Heritage Center, August &

The National Park Service will be replacing the siding for the Northwest Arctic Heritage Center. This project is scheduled for two months, August thru September 2024. The building will remain open to the public during this project, Mon-Sat 9am-5pm.

Bear Encounter Near Lower Tingayguk River

Avoid travel near the lower Tingayguk River and Wolf Creek. Two separate incidents have occurred, one resulting in a bear obtaining food and in another a bear charged a packrafter. This is a potentially dangerous situation. Avoid these areas if possible.

Anaktuvuk Pass Ranger Station is Temporarily Closed

Anaktuvuk Pass Ranger Station is Temporarily Closed until August 7 to facilitate Ranger patrols of Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. These closures occur several times each summer.

Self-Service Information at Bettles Visitor Center

Self-Service information, park stamps and backcountry orientation are available on the covered porch at the visitor center. Rangers will return to Bettles on August 7 upon completion of scheduled backcountry patrols.
