...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM MDT THIS EVENING DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE WEST CENTRAL MOUNTAINS... .Critical fire weather conditions today focus over west central portions of the state, with elevated to near critical conditions prevailing elsewhere. Isolated dry storms in central and northern New Mexico this afternoon may start new fires and create gusty and erratic outflow wind gusts. * AFFECTED AREA...West Central Mountains (Zone 105). * TIMING...Until 7 PM MDT this evening. * 20 FOOT WINDS...Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Relative Humidity between 10 to 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Road work at El Malpais Visitor Center

Pavement patching at the El Malpais Visitor Center parking lot and road will occur in September. The visitor center will remain open, but slight delays are possible. Please follow construction signage and directions.

NPS 300 Road Conditions

NPS 300 to Big Tubes has some mud and ruts. Conditions may change following thunderstorms. A high clearance, four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended.
