Forts Randolph And Buhlow Shs

United States

Overview

Brochure InfoThe site includes 2 earthen Confederate forts built in late 1864, early 1865, after the second Red River Campaign of the Union forces. The forts were to defend against a third invasion. Both forts are situated near the Red River, about 600 yards apart, and were meant to impede ascent of the river in an area where rapids were present during low water. The war ended in 1865 and a third invasion was never initiated. There are numerous attractions near the site. These include The Kent House, the historic Hotel Bentley, Alexandria Museum of Art, Arna Bontemps African-American Museum, Louisiana College, Kisatchie National Forest, Louisiana Maneuvers and Military Museum, Mt.
