Brochure InfoLocated just 2 miles northeast of Hutchinson, Sand Hills State Park campground entrance is 2 miles east of K61HWY and 56th Street. This 1,123 acre Park was first established in 1974. For the first 40 years, this Park was maintained as a natural sand hill park with a trail system of 15 miles. Hiking is allowed on all trails and horseback riding is allowed on about 2/3 of the trails. A campground has been established with 64 utility sites. 44 sites have water, sewer, and electricity. 20 sites have just water and sewer. All sites have 50 amp service. 14 sites have horsepens made up of two 12'X12' pens. These 14 sites are Prime Sites with an additional $2/day fee. Twenty of the sites have concrete camping pads and living areas. All site include a fire ring, lantern stand, and picnic table. Upright covered grills will be in place by the summer of 2015. There is a 4 unit family shower building/restroom. Cabins are also on the list for Sand Hills. The campground surrounds a five acre pond stocked with mainly channel catfish. CONSTRUCTION: Sand Hills will be under some additional improvements through 2015.Key InfoYou must be 18 or older to rent a cabin or campsite. Any motorized vehicles (gas or electric) operated within state parks must be registered (having a license plate) and must purchase and display a valid state park vehicle permit. Electric and gas powered scooters and skateboards cannot be operated in the state park. ATV use is prohibited in the state park. Camping is allowed only in designated areas and is subject to restrictions as posted. All campers and camping units are limited to a stay of not more than 14 consecutive days although a 14-day extension may be obtained with written permission from the park manager. A five-day absence is required before returning to the park to camp again. Any property left unused or unoccupied for 48 hours is subject to removal. Only one camper/RV per utility site is allowed. Fires are allowed in fireplaces, fire rings, and cooking grills only. Fires must be completely extinguished prior to leaving the area. Swimming is not allowed in the campground lake. Pets must always be restrained by a camper, cage, hand-held leash, or tethered chain no longer than 10 feet. They are not allowed on swimming beaches or swimming areas that are delineated by buoys or other markers or in public buildings or structures. Dogs participating in authorized activities or assisting the visually or hearing impaired are not subject to these restrictions. A special event permit is required for any event involving entrance fees, exclusive use of an area, sales, organized competition, amplified sound, or reservation of a specific site or facility. Check with the park office for details. Fishing is prohibited on boat ramps, courtesy docks, swimming beaches, and in swimming areas marked with buoys. In state parks, fish may only be cleaned at designated fish cleaning stations or other locations as posted. Boats are prohibited in the campground lake. Fireworks are prohibited. Litter must be put in trash containers, if provided. Where containers are not provided, park users must carry their trash out with them. Digging holes, removing or defacing geological formations, archeological relics or ruins, or vegetation (except for noncommercial use of edible wild plants, wild fruits, nuts, or fungi) is prohibited. Quiet hours are 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Actions which alarm, anger, or disturb others are prohibited. Generators can not be used during quiet hours. Failure to comply may result in expulsion from the park. Firearms may only be discharged in areas specifically designated for hunting or target practice. All litter must be properly disposed of in the provided trashbins. Where no bins are provided, patrons must carry their trash out with them. DUMPING OF GREY WATER IS PROHIBITED. Grey water must be disposed of at the dump station. Trails are open during daylight hours only. No camping, fires, or motorized vehicles are allowed on the trails. The campground entrance is 2 miles east of K61 HWY and 56th Street.Fee Cancellation DescKS Refund Policy Cabins: Cabins may be reserved from one year to three days in advance. Reservations require a $14.00 reservation fee. Cancellation 30 or more days prior to arrival date results in a 100 percent refund minus reservation fee. Cancellation 29 to 5 days prior to arrival results in a 100 percent refund minus one night rental fee and reservation fee. Cancellation 4 days or less prior to arrival date or after arrival date will result in all fees being forfeited. Campsites & Shelters: Campsites may be reserved anytime during the current calendar year up to two days in advance of a planned stay. Transaction fees are nonrefundable. Cancellation 15 days or more prior to arrival date results in a refund minus the transaction fee. Cancellation 14 to three days prior to arrival results in a refund minus one camping night and transaction fee. Cancellation less than three days prior to arrival results in a forfeiture of all fees. Cancellation within the minimum window of stay results in a forfeiture of all fees. If you notify the park office to shorten your stay within 14 to three days of arrival, this will result in a forfeiture of fees for one night camping. Payment: Payment in full is required at the time the reservation is made. Payments accepted online or by phone - Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. Payments accepted at the park office - Visa, MasterCard, Discover, check, money order, or cash. There is a non-refundable $3.00 reservation fee per campsite, picnic shelter or facility. There is a non-refundable $14.00 reservation fee per cabin. Cancellations: All cancellation requests may be submitted online.
