Brochure InfoThe tallest single-structured sand dune in North America rises to 470 feet high above small lakes in the high desert south of Mountain Home. The state park includes desert, dune, prairie, lake and marsh habitat with opportunities to observe nocturnal species. Activities include fishing, birdwatching, camping, hiking, swimming and viewing the stars at one of only two public observatories in Idaho. Feel free to climb but no vehicles are allowed on the dunes. A visitor center offers information on birds of prey, insects, fossils, wildlife and sand dunes and gift items for purchase. Two cabins are available for rent. Also 82 serviced with W/E and 35 standard sites.Key Info A $7.00 Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee (MVEF) is required for every vehicle entering Idaho State Parks (including visitors to campers). All campsite and facility use fees accommodate one (1) vehicle MVEF per night stayed. Any additional MVEF and per person charges will be collected at the park. MVEF may be paid for at the daily rate or by purchasing a State Park Passport or an Annual Motor Vehicle Entrance Fee sticker. Visitors and park day users may be required to park outside the campground. All yurts, cabins and group facilities that are ADA accessible do not require proof of disability upon arrival. Camping is allowed in designated areas only. All boats, trailers, or other motorized vehicles must fit entirely within the campsite parking spur provided. Any equipment that does not fit entirely within the sites designated parking area must be parked outside the campground in an area designated by the park manager. RV's are not permitted when staying in facilities (yurts, cabins, cottages or houses). Campfires are allowed in designated areas only! All pets must be kept on a leash and not be left unattended. Pets are not allowed on beaches except for designated areas (not all parks have designated areas); Campers are responsible to clean up after their pet. Not all facilities allow pets. Quiet hours are enforced from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. Fireworks are prohibited in all parks at all times. No Exceptions! Important Information for Daily EntranceDirectionTake highway 51 south from Mountain Home approximately 16 miles. After crossing the Snake River turn left on to state highway 78. Proceed 2 miles to park entrance which is on the right.Season Date DescCamping SeasonsBooking Window Product InfoFee Cancellation DescFee Information Payment in full will be charged to your credit card upon completion of the reservation. A $10.00 non-refundable on line reservation fee ($25.00 for group sites) will be charged for each reservation. Payment Methods Accepted: Cancellation Policy All cancellation requests must be submitted by mail, fax or e-mail to the park where the reservation is held. A non-refundable fee of $10.00 ($50 for group sites) will be charged for any cancellation made at least 24 hours (21 days for group sites) prior to your scheduled arrival date. Additional lat cancellation fee may apply if the reservation is cancelled after the deadline. Click HERE for more information on Idaho State Parks Fees. Modifications: Customers may extend original stays booked without incurring a modification fee. A modification fee of $10.00 will be charged for modifications resulting in a reduction of stay where notification is received prior to check-in time. A modification fee of $10.00 will be charged for any modification to a previously made reservation that involves a change to the reservation dates even where part of the new stay includes part of the original stay booked. Changes to reservations: Changes to reservation dates, where no dates of stay involved in the original reservation are the same as the dates of stay for the resulting reservation, will require a cancellation of the original reservation and the booking of a new reservation with applicable service fees. If circumstances prevent check-in on the scheduled arrival day, campers are requested to notify the park of a change in schedule. Depending on when notification is given, a first night’s use fee may be charged. Reservations made for stays greater than one night and booked right on the nine month window so as to have a departure date that exceeds the nine month window will be frozen for 18 days. During this freeze no changes may be made to the reservation, this includes the ability to cancel the reservation. Changes and cancellations may be made to the reservation after the 18 day freeze, all standard reservation policies, fees and rules will apply at time of change. Cancellations: Standard Cancellation In addition to the $10 non-refundable reservation fee, a service charge of $10.00 will be assessed for the cancellation of a reservation for each individual campsite or facility. Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance of the scheduled arrival time may also require the forfeiture of the first night’s camping fee. Special Use Campsite and Facility Cancellations Cancellations that occur twenty-one (21) or fewer calendar days prior to arrival, will be assessed a cancellation fee equal to the first night or daily facility usage fees (base rate). Cancellations that occur more than twenty-one (21) calendar days prior to arrival will be assessed a cancellation charge of fifty dollars ($50.00). Reservation No-Shows: The site will be held until check-out time on the day following scheduled arrival. Reservation holders failing to cancel a reservation or failing to notify the park of a late arrival will be considered “no-shows.” The reservation will be cancelled at that time and all fees paid will be forfeited.
