Brochure InfoVisit Fort DuPont State Park! Named for Rear Admiral Samuel Francis du Pont, the Fort was actively used as a military base from the Civil War through World War II. Following World War II, the Fort was turned over to the State of Delaware and has been used for various purposes, including the Governor Bacon Health Center. Portions of the land were dedicated as a State Park in 1992.Brochure Info - OrientationFort DuPont is located just south of Delaware City off Route 9. The park features 322 acres along the scenic Delaware River and the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.Brochure Info - RecreationOpen year-round, the park provides opportunities for passive recreation including picnicking, fishing, and hiking. A self-guided trail is available for visitors to explore the site's rich historic past. For those interested in more active recreation, the park provides both tennis and basketball courts.Key InfoAll picnic area reservations at Fort DuPont are from 8am to sunset.Important Information for Daily EntranceDirectionDIRECTIONS TO GRASS DALE CENTER FROM THE NORTH: 1. Take I-95 South to Route 1 South to Exit 152. 2. Take a left off the ramp onto Rt. 72. Route 72 turns into Route 9. 3. Keep straight into Delaware City. 4. You will pass Landmarks: Valero Refinery, Valero Gas Station (both on left). 5. Keep straight thru the light and you will pass Kathys Crabhouse on right side. 6. Immediately after Kathys Crabhouse, go over a small bridge and bear to your right. 7. Follow signs saying Grass Dale Center. 8. Keep straight quarter mile and center will be on your right side. FROM THE SOUTH: 1. Take Route 1 North to Exit 152. 2. Take a right off the ramp. 3. That brings you to Route 72. Route 72 turns into Route 9. 4. Keep straight into Delaware City. 5. You will pass Landmarks: Valero Refinery, Valero Gas Station (both on left). 6. Keep straight thru the light and you will pass Kathys Crabhouse on your right. 7. Immediately after Kathys Crabhouse, go over a little grated bridge and bear to your right. 8. Follow signs saying Grassdale Center. 9. Keep straight quarter mile and center will be on your right side.Booking Window Product InfoFee Cancellation DescCancellation Policy A cancellation fee of $10 applies if cancellation occurs prior to 31 days before arrival date. Balance of payments will be refunded. A cancellation fee of a one-day camping fee is charged if cancellation is within 30 days of arrival date; the balance of payment received will be refunded. A cabin reservation carries a $35 cancellation fee; the balance of payment received will be refunded. A reservation at the Cottages at Indian River Marina carries a cancellation fee of one-half of the total rental fee. Early departures forfeit all balances. No refunds will be given unless Delaware State Parks or the reservation call center is notified of the cancellation. The park reserves the right to hold a campsite, cabin or yurt for no more than 24 hours after a customer's expected arrival date; after that time, the reservation will be cancelled. The park must receive notice of the late arrival to hold the reservation after the designated arrival time. $75 fee - standard DE state parks cancellation policy
