Misery Overlook is the highest point in the vicinity with an elevation of 441 feet, giving a fine view of Pachaug Forest and Voluntown. The overlook is accessible by trail and or car (600 feet from a parking area.) The Rhododendron Sanctuary offers a short scenic walk through an unusual ecological type and is one of very few such areas in New England. The Rhododendron usually blossom around July 4th.Brochure Info - RecreationBeachdale Pond is stocked with trout and has natural bass, pickerel and bullhead. The fishing area has a fishing platform off of Route 49 with wheelchair access.Key InfoPachaug State Forest and the Mount Misery Campground are alcohol free facilities. There is very limited cell phone coverage in Pachaug State Forest.Important Information for Daily EntranceDirectionTake I-395 to exit 22.Take Route 138 east.
