Brochure InfoQuaddick Picnic Shelter was once the site of Thompson's town farm, where elderly residents of the village spent their reflective years. Prior to that, it had been a fishing area of the Nipmuck Indians. Today, it is an ideal setting for picnics, with sprawling areas for field sports and opportunities for both swimming and ice skating, depending on the season.Brochure Info - OrientationIn 1866, the town of Thompson granted the right to flow what was then Kings Pond to a higher level, creating Quaddick Reservoir.  The reservoir was heavily used as a source of power and water, for processing textile materials in the plants in Killingly.  In 1951, Quaddick was designated a state park, after originally being developed as a Forestry recreation area.Brochure Info - RecreationActivities include boating, ice skating, field sports, picnicking, and swimming.Brochure Info - Facilities and RestrictionsPark facilities include restrooms, a boat launch area, changing rooms, picnic shelters, and picnic tables.Brochure Info - Nearby AttractionsTwo nearby staete parks include Bigelow Hollow State Park and Mashamoquet Brook State Park.Key InfoPicnic Shelter Cancellation Policy: Refund amounts will be determined as follows: • Cancellations made 30 days or more prior to the picnic shelter reservation: full refund less the $9.00 non-refundable reservation fee and $9.00 cancellation fee • Cancellations made 6 - 29 days prior to the picnic shelter reservation: refund of $145.00 less $9.00 cancellation fee • Cancellations made within 5 days of the picnic shelter reservation: Not eligible for a refund. Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance before your arrival and up until 11 months in advance All Parking fees are additional and will be collected on arrival at the gate. Rental of the picnic shelter does not exempt vehicles from the parking charge. Heavy weekend use at each park may lead to gate closures if the park fills to capacity. In the event of this happening, no more cars are allowed to enter. Guests should plan to arrive as early as possible to avoid being turned away. (Picnic shelter rental does not guarantee entry to the park.)Important Information for Daily EntranceDirectionFrom the west/Putnam: Take Route 44 east for 3.3 miles, after crossing under I-395, to Town Farm Road in East Putnam. Turn left onto Town Farm Road, and proceed north for 2.7 miles. The park entrance is on the left. From the east/Providence, RI: Take Route 44 west. Continue on Route 44 for 1.0 miles, after crossing the Connecticut State Line, to Town Farm Road in East Putnam. Turn right onto Town Farm Road, and proceed north for 2.7 miles. The park entrance is on the left. From the north/Worcester, MA: Take I-290 south to I-395 south, Exit 99. Turn left at the end of the ramp onto Quaddick Road, and proceed south for 3.2 miles to Town Farm Road. Turn left onto Town Farm Road, and proceed north for 1.4 miles. The park entrance is on the left. From the south/Norwich: Take I-395 north, Exit 97. Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Route 44 east, and proceed for 3.3 miles to Town Farm Road in East Putnam.
