Brochure InfoBuskin River State Recreation Site borders the Buskin River and is near the state airport. The Buskin River is one of the most productive fisheries on the Kodiak road system. Visitors from around the world visit this river to fish for sockeye and coho salmon. For those that like to hike or mountain bike, there are old military roads connecting WWII structures hidden in the spruce forest on the north side of the park. Visitors can expect to see a variety of birds and wildlife including brown bears, eagles, harlequin ducks, and harbor seals. Camping sites are available on a first come first serve basis and most camping sites are suitable for RVs.Brochure Info - OrientationBears also enjoy this river fishery for the same reasons, so bear counrty ettiquette is a must when visiting the Buskin River area. The park also has a popular local beach access for beach combing and soaking up the sun. The area was part of the WWII Fort Greely and has a web of trails created from the old military road system with remenants of the era remaining throughout the area.Brochure Info - RecreationCommon recreation activities include: enjoying the picnic shelters, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, beach combing, wildlife and marine mammal viewing, tide pooling, camping, and bird watching.Brochure Info - Facilities and RestrictionsThere are two picnic shelters and a handicapped-accessible fishing platform located nearby the river.Key InfoBears often visit the park, especially along the river corridor, proper bear country safety, procedures and etiquette should always be followed. All Kodiak road based state parks have a $5 per vehicle day-use fee that can be paid with cash or check at a self-payment fee station located in the park or an annual vehicle sticker.Important Information for Daily EntranceDirectionTo reach the park from the ferry dock and downtown, head south on Rezanof Drive going toward the airport for approximately 3.5 miles and make a left turn onto Buskin River Road, the park is approximately a quarter mile down the road. If starting from the Kodiak State Airport, make a right onto Rezanof Drive toward town and go approximately one half mile, turn right onto Buskin River Rd..Booking Window Product InfoFee Cancellation DescCancellations: Cancellations cannot be made within 2 calendar days prior to arrival date. Cancellations made at least 3 days prior to arrival can receive a refund (does not include transaction/cancellation fees). Cancellations must be made through www.reserveamerica.com . You must cancel your reservations online, from your account. If you fail to cancel in a timely manner, or fail to use the facility for reasons other than the exceptions listed below, a refund is not available. Changes/Transfers: Changes/Transfers must be made 3 calendar days prior to your scheduled arrival date and incur a $4 change/transfer fee. Changes/transfers cannot be made within 2 calendar days. Changes where the reservation is extended will not have an additional change fee. Refunds: Park Staff are not authorized to give cash refunds. Refunds for canceled reservations online will be made by issuing a credit to the card used for payment. Exceptions: If you were unable to use the facility due to events beyond your control, such as extreme weather/hazardous conditions (as determined by Alaska State Parks), or closure of a road, trail, or facility by the State, you may request a refund. Requests for refunds must be made within three (3) business days of the last date of your reservation to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources Public Information Center at 907-269-8400. Please provide your reservation number when you call. Extreme weather in the Northern Region is defined as Minus 30 F for the "Hunt Memorial", "North Fork", and "Chena River" Cabins; Minus 20 F for all other cabins and ice huts. In the event of a natural emergency or sudden campground/site closure, a full refund will be issued. The Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation reserves the right to make the final determination of whether a refund will be issued.
