Brochure InfoDecision Point State Marine Park is on the south side of Passage Canal approximately eight miles east of Whittier. The park is generally used by kayakers and small boat users, as there is no protected anchorage. The public use cabin in this park is located on the west side of Squirrel Cove.Brochure Info - Facilities and RestrictionsFour tent platforms are also located in Squirrel Cove and can be accessed from the cabin by a boardwalk trail. Each tent platforms can accommodate one tent and are available on a first come basis. A cooking area and bear-proof locker is provided for food storage. Just south of Decision Point is an east-facing, medium - pebble beach that provides dry, flat camping for up to 10 tents between the dead trees. The camp areas are above the high tide and have two fire rings.Key InfoTrash collection in not provided. Pack out what you pack in. When latrines are not available, bury human waste away from trails and sources of water, both fresh and salt. Open fires are permitted only on ocean beaches, preferably below mean high tide. Fires elsewhere must be in a portable stove, metal-bottomed container or designated fire site. Fishing and hunting regulations may be obtained from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game. Discharge of firearms is prohibited within 1/2 mile of developed facilities. Target shooting is prohibited in all areas of the recreation area. Be prepared to handle emergencies yourself. The recreation area is staffed seasonally by a ranger and volunteers who are not always available.Important Information for Daily EntranceDirectionDecision Point State Marine Park is 8 miles east of Whittier and can be reached by private boat, kayak, float plane, or commercial water taxi. If using a private boat or kayak, please use the caution necessary for coastal Alaskan waters with respect to tides, weather, currents, and your party's abilities and experience level. No mooring buoys are provided at Decision Point SMP. Anchoring is at your own risk. If pulling a kayak, inflatable or small skiff ashore, be sure to secure your boat to avoid losing it at high tide or surf conditions. Charter boat shuttle services are available in the Whittier harbor. Arrangements can be made with them for drop-offs and pick-ups at Decision Point SMP.Booking Window Product InfoFee Cancellation DescCancellations: Cancellations must be made at least 3 calendar days prior to arrival date for a full refund (does not include transaction/cancellation fees). Cancellations must be made through www.reserveamerica.com. You must cancel your reservations online, from your account. If you fail to cancel in a timely manner, or fail to use the facility for reasons other than the exceptions listed below, a refund is not available. Changes/Transfers: Changes/Transfers must be made 2 calendar days prior to your scheduled arrival date and incur a $3 change/transfer fee. Changes where the reservation is extended will not have an additional change fee. Refunds: Park Staff are not authorized to give cash refunds. Refunds for canceled reservations online will be made by issuing a credit to the card used for payment. Exceptions: If you were unable to use the facility due to events beyond your control, such as extreme weather/hazardous conditions (as determined by Alaska State Parks), or closure of a road, trail, or facility by the State, you may request a refund. Requests for refunds must be made within three (3) business days of the last date of your reservation to the Alaska Department of Natural Resources Public Information Center at 907-269-8400. Please provide your reservation number when you call. Extreme weather in the Northern Region is defined as Minus 30 F for the "Hunt Memorial", "North Fork", and "Chena River" Cabins; Minus 20 F for all other cabins and ice huts. In the event of a natural emergency or sudden campground/site closure, a full refund will be issued. The Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation reserves the right to make the final determination of whether a refund will be issued.
