About
Don Carter State Park sits on the northern shores of Lake Lanier in Hall County, Georgia, making it the only state park with direct access to the popular 38,000-acre reservoir. The park offers a full-service campground with 44 developed sites featuring electric hookups ranging from 15 to 50 amps, plus water and sewer connections. An additional 16 primitive campsites cater to tent and hammock campers seeking a simpler experience without the long hike typically required for backcountry camping. The park's lakeside location provides excellent recreation opportunities including two boat ramps, courtesy docks, and seasonal kayak, paddleboard, and aquacycle rentals. A sand beach with bathhouse offers swimming when water levels permit. The park also features a fish cleaning station, playground, outdoor fitness equipment, and a multi-use paved trail through mature hardwood forest. Comfort stations provide hot showers and flush toilets, and a gift shop sells firewood, ice, and supplies. Two-bedroom cottages perched on wooded hillsides near the lake provide an alternative to camping. The park operates year-round with reservations available up to 14 months in advance through ReserveAmerica. A daily ParkPass is required for all vehicles, though overnight guests pay only once per stay.
