About
Clover Island State Marine Park is a remote public use cabin located midway between Juneau and Gustavus on an island in Lynn Canal. The cabin sits approximately one mile south of Howard Bay on the northern portion of the H-shaped island. Access is exclusively by boat or floatplane, making this a true backcountry Alaska experience. The rustic cabin accommodates up to six guests and includes a wood stove for heating, though visitors should bring supplemental firewood as local supplies of downed wood and driftwood are limited. Basic amenities include an outhouse, fire ring, and picnic table. There is no potable water source on the island, so all drinking water must be packed in. The surrounding waters and forests support abundant wildlife, including humpback whales, orcas, harbor seals, Steller sea lions, brown bears, and moose. Popular activities include wildlife viewing, photography, sea kayaking, sport fishing, and hunting. Summer high temperatures average in the 60s with high humidity and 60-90 inches of annual rainfall, so quality rain gear and warm layers are essential.
Directions
