Coastal Flood Statement issued April 8 at 4:20PM EDT until April 9 at 5:00AM EDT by NWS Key West FL

4:20 PM — April 9th, 12:30 AM

* WHAT...Minor saltwater flooding. * WHERE...Upper and Middle Florida Keys. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Minor saltwater flooding of low elevation streets and lots is likely. Some storm drains will overflow, and some seawalls and docks will be overtopped. Boaters can expect less clearance under fixed bridges. Motorists should remember that persistent puddles around the times of high tide are almost certain to contain a mix of saltwater. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong to gale force winds north of the Florida Keys are generating enhanced swell along the western coastline of Florida. The swell, in turn, is causing elevated waters along the Middle and Upper Keys.

About

John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park Campground provides 47 campsites suitable for both tent and RV camping in Key Largo, located at the northern gateway to the Florida Keys. Each site includes water and electric hookups (30 amp, 50 amp, and 110 volt), along with a picnic table and grill. The campground features a dump station for sewer needs, while the main restroom building offers flush toilets, hot showers meeting ADA requirements, and coin-operated laundry facilities. The park also features kayak and canoe trails through mangrove swamps, a swimming beach, short nature trails through tropical hammocks, and fishing in designated areas. The visitor center houses a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium with daily fish feedings at 11 a.m., plus several smaller aquariums showcasing the park's marine life. An on-site cafe and gift shop provide food service and camping supplies. A primitive group camping area accommodates up to 24 people with a fire circle, benches, and picnic tables. Pets are permitted at regular campsites. The park is open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. until sunset, with reservations recommended 3 to 11 months in advance during winter season.
