* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of Utah, including the following areas, Glen Canyon Recreation Area/Lake Powell, South Central Utah, Western Canyonlands and Zion National Park. * WHEN...From late tonight through late Wednesday night. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, dry washes, slot canyons, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations such as slickrock areas and recent burn scars. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Deep moisture will remain in place across the region. Several disturbances will fuel development of thunderstorms with rainfall rates in excess of 0.25 to 0.50 inches per hour. In areas with training thunderstorms, rainfall rates will exceed 0.50 inches per hour. About
Ponderosa Grove Campground sits amid rolling sagebrush hills atop the Vermilion Cliffs, approximately 8 miles northwest of Kanab, Utah at 6,300 feet elevation. Named for the ponderosa pines that shade its campsites, the campground offers views of the White Cliffs and colorful pink formations of the Bryce geologic formation. Wildlife in the area includes mule deer, raptors, coyotes, rabbits, and quail. Originally constructed in the 1970s, the campground became popular with OHV enthusiasts due to its proximity to the adjacent sand dunes. Today it serves recreators visiting Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Zion National Park, and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Activities in the area include ATV/UTV riding, hiking, photography, horseback riding, hunting, and climbing. The campground spans 16 acres and includes 26 car-camping sites, 6 RV sites, 2 walk-in sites, and a reservable group area accommodating up to 40 people. Each site features a gravel tent platform, fire ring, picnic table, and parking area. Vault toilets and a dumpster are provided, but there is no potable water, hookups, or dump station. Maximum vehicle length is 24 feet.
Directions
From Kanab, Utah, head northwest on US-89A for approximately 8 miles. The campground is located at 669 S Highway 89A.
