About
Maples Campground is a former established campground located north of Snowbasin Ski Resort in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The Forest Service decommissioned the site and removed all developed amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, and restrooms. Despite the removal of facilities, the public is still permitted to camp in the area as a dispersed camping location. Access to the area is restricted to walk-ins, bicycles, and horses only. No motor vehicles are allowed beyond the gate. The camping area is approximately half a mile from the gate located just off the pavement at the lower Snowbasin parking lot, accessible via a gravel trail. Campers must camp away from the trail that passes through the site. While fires are not technically restricted, the Forest Service does not recommend campfires due to fire potential near trees where the old fire rings were located. The area connects to the Wheeler Creek Trail system and serves mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians.
Directions
From Huntsville, take UT-226 east toward Snowbasin Resort. At the lower Snowbasin parking lot, locate the gate just off the pavement. The camping area is approximately 0.5 miles via gravel trail from this gate. Access is walk-in, bicycle, or horse only.
