About

Lassen Creek Campground offers a remote camping experience in Modoc National Forest near popular obsidian collection areas. Unlike traditional campgrounds, this is open area camping with no designated individual sites, giving campers flexibility to set up where they choose among the scattered fire rings and picnic tables. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees and no reservations. Water and garbage service are not provided, so visitors must bring adequate water for drinking, cooking, washing, and extinguishing campfires. All trash and animal waste must be packed out. The campground is accessed via county roads and the Modoc Backcountry Discovery Trail, offering a true backcountry feel while still providing basic amenities like vault toilets. The area is popular for its proximity to obsidian mines and offers solitude in a scenic Warner Mountain setting. Dogs are allowed but must remain on leash. A 14-day camping limit applies.
