About
Pigeon Point Campground is located on the Wild and Scenic portion of the Trinity River at 1,100 feet elevation, approximately 15 miles west of Weaverville along CA Highway 299. This scenic campground sits above the river at the start of the Pigeon Point river rafting run, known for its Class III rapids, making it a popular put-in location for experienced rafters and kayakers. The campground features both single campsites and a group site with a picnic pavilion area. Pull-through parking is available to accommodate boat trailers. Each campsite includes a picnic table and fire pit. The facility operates on a self-registration system at the entrance, with reservations required only for the group site. River access is available for boats that can be carried by hand. The Trinity River offers excellent opportunities for fishing, swimming, floating, rafting, and kayaking. However, the Pigeon Point to Big Flat section is considered too dangerous for tubers and family canoeists, with boating from Cedar Flat to Grays Falls advised only for expert boaters. River flows can change periodically due to releases from Lewiston Dam. Commercial guided raft trips and whitewater instruction are available through Forest Service permitted outfitters.
