About
Moore Creek Campground is situated on the Mokelumne River in Stanislaus National Forest, though it is managed by the Calaveras Ranger District. Located at approximately 3,900 feet elevation, this remote campground offers 14 campsites spread along the scenic river corridor in a mixed conifer forest. The campground provides access to the Mokelumne River for fishing and water activities, as well as proximity to the Mokelumne Wilderness for hiking and backcountry exploration. The setting is naturally beautiful with mature trees and river views, though amenities are minimal. Campers should come prepared for primitive camping conditions. The campground does not have potable water or restroom facilities, so visitors must bring their own water supply and practice proper backcountry sanitation. This is a quiet, undeveloped site best suited for self-sufficient campers seeking a remote river setting in the Sierra Nevada.
Directions
Located off Highway 4 in the Calaveras Ranger District. Access via Ellis Road off Highway 88, then drive down a paved road to the Mokelumne River. The campground is in Stanislaus National Forest but managed by the Amador Ranger District.
