About

Squirrel Meadows Cabin is a historic Forest Service guard station built in 1934, though the site has been used for administrative purposes since 1907. The 2-room cabin is constructed of lodgepole pine with a wood shingled roof and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Only one other cabin in Wyoming shares the same building plan. The cabin sleeps up to 8 guests and provides bunkbeds with mattresses, a wood stove for cooking and heating, table and chairs, and firewood. Outside amenities include a hand pump for drinking water, vault toilet, picnic table, and horse corrals. Guests must bring their own bedding, matches, battery or propane lighting, first aid kit, and trash bags as this is a pack-it-out facility. Situated at 6,500 feet on the Yellowstone Plateau in southwest Wyoming, the cabin offers access to horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, OHV riding, snowmobiling, hiking, and mountain biking. The area is prime wildlife habitat with black bear, grizzly bear, wolf, elk, moose, and mule deer. All food must be stored according to bear country regulations.
