Calpine is a three-story forest fire lookout tower that is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of the Tahoe National Forest. It has propane-powered appliances and is a popular rental facility, with hiking, mountain biking and Pacific Crest Trail access nearby. Visitors should plan on bringing their own items, as the lookout only has two beds, a dry sink, a table and chairs, three propane lights, a propane heater, a propane stove/oven and a fire finder. There is also a nearby picnic table and fire ring, along with stunning views of the Sierra Valley, Haskell Peak, Nevada and Lassen Peak.
