Special Weather Statement issued April 22 at 3:16AM CDT by NWS Duluth MN

3:16 AM — 8:00 PM

Dry conditions and breezy winds will lead to near critical fire weather conditions today. South to southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 25 mph are forecast for this afternoon and early evening. Minimum relative humidity values of 15 to 25 percent are also expected. Together, these conditions could lead to the rapid spread of fires. Check burning restrictions and fire danger before burning. For more information on burning restrictions for Minnesota, see www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.

About

Fenske Lake Campground offers an escape to a small, remote setting with large majestic pine trees approximately 10 miles north of Ely, Minnesota. The campground features 15 individual campsites and one group site perched on a rock ledge with spectacular lake views. Most sites do not accommodate large RVs, with five designated as tent-only. The group site, situated away from the main campground, accommodates 10 to 25 people and features a historic log pavilion and large rock fireplace. The campground overlooks 130-acre Fenske Lake, surrounded by dense hardwood and pine forests typical of Minnesota's northwoods. Recreation opportunities include a 1-mile nature trail, accessible fishing pier with a 750-foot paved path, boat ramp, and grassy swimming beach. Anglers fish for bass, northern pike, crappie, and sunfish. The location serves as a Superior National Forest canoe circle route and provides convenient access to Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness entry points, making it extremely popular for canoeing and kayaking adventures.

Directions

From Ely, travel east on State Highway 169 North toward Winton for about 1 mile. Turn left onto County Road 88 and travel about 2 miles. Turn right onto Echo Trail (County Road 116) and continue about 7 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
