About
Woodbine Campground is remotely located along the Stillwater River at 5,300 feet elevation, adjacent to the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness in southwestern Montana. The fully paved campground with paved spurs sits at the end of Stillwater River Road, about 57 miles west of Red Lodge and 7 miles south of Nye. The wooded, shady setting provides views of surrounding snow-covered peaks exceeding 10,000 feet. The campground features 44 sites total, including 42 standard sites and 2 group sites that accommodate up to 16 people. All sites have picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. Some sites are equipped with bear-resistant food storage lockers, and several walk-in tent sites are positioned at the river's edge. The campground includes accessible vault toilets and hand-pump drinking water. A campground host is on-site during the operating season, with firewood bundles available for purchase. Woodbine serves as a prime base for wilderness access and fishing. The Woodbine Falls Trail begins in the campground, following Woodbine Creek for 1.5 miles round-trip to an impressive cascade. The Stillwater Trail provides hiking and horseback access into the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, reaching Sioux Charley Lake after 3 miles and continuing over 20 miles deeper into the wilderness. The Stillwater River and nearby streams and lakes offer excellent fishing for rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. Wildlife including deer, elk, and bear are common in the area.
