...PROLONGED CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED FOR THE HIGH COUNTRY ON TUESDAY...POTENTIALLY CONTINUING THROUGH FRIDAY... Sustained winds are expected to be 15 to 30 mph across much of the high country this afternoon, with gusts up to 45 mph, strongest for exposed areas and higher elevations. These conditions will drive very high fire danger across the warned area. Any new starts or established fires will likely spread rapidly under these conditions. The National Weather Service in Denver has allowed the Red Flag Warning to expire at 9 PM this evening. However, another Red Flag Warning is still in effect for Tuesday. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 212, 213, 214 and 216. * TIMING...From noon to 9 PM MDT Tuesday. * WINDS...Southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 9 percent. * IMPACTS...Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire.

About

Happy Meadows Campground occupies a scenic stretch along the South Platte River within the Pike-San Isabel National Forests, approximately 3 miles north of Lake George, Colorado. Situated at 7,900 feet, the campground provides direct access to the South Platte River and is positioned near both Eleven Mile Reservoir and Eleven Mile Canyon, where the towering gray granite walls rise 500 feet above the river. The campground offers seven reservable standard nonelectric sites, each equipped with a picnic table, fire ring with grate, and pedestal grill. Parking spurs range from 20 to 30 feet, accommodating trailers and RVs up to 22 feet. Vault toilets serve the campground, and potable water is available via a hand pump. No hookups or showers are provided. World-class trout fishing on the South Platte is the primary draw, though visitors also explore nearby Florissant Fossil Beds and scenic drives through Eleven Mile Canyon and Tarryall Valley. The town of Lake George offers a general store and fishing supplies. Bear activity requires proper food storage in bear-resistant containers or hard-sided vehicles.
