About
Payson Lakes Campground is a beloved destination located just 12 miles from Payson, Utah, nestled in a forest of aspen, fir, and pine trees at an elevation of 8,000 feet. The campground is situated along the scenic Nebo Loop Scenic Byway and provides access to three picturesque lakes: Big East, McClelland, and Box Lakes. With 98 single sites, 10 double sites, multiple group sites, and a yurt available, the campground accommodates a range of camping styles while maintaining a natural, rustic atmosphere without hookups or cell service. The Payson Lakes area is particularly popular for its excellent non-motorized boating opportunities, including canoeing and kayaking. A day-use area on the shore of Big East Lake features a small swim beach, picnic tables, and flush toilets, along with a paved accessible nature path that circles the lake. Summer wildflowers are abundant throughout the area, and wildlife viewing opportunities abound. The campground's proximity to the Mount Nebo Wilderness Area provides access to pristine backcountry, numerous hiking trails, and spectacular mountain scenery. The 37-mile Nebo Loop Scenic Byway offers breathtaking views through high alpine terrain, dense forests, and colorful meadows, with attractions like Devil's Kitchen Geological Area nearby. Despite its mountain setting, the campground remains conveniently close to Payson, a full-service community for supplies and amenities.
