About
Bark Camp Recreation Area sits on a 45-acre lake in the Clinch Ranger District of Jefferson National Forest. The campground offers 34 sites available first-come, first-served, with options for single sites, double sites, and sites with electric hookups. All sites include tent pads, picnic tables, and parking spurs. During the open season, campers have access to bathhouses with hot showers and flush toilets.
The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout and features universally accessible fishing piers. A three-mile shoreline trail circles the lake, providing scenic views and hiking opportunities. Additional trails include a short hike to Kitchen Rock, an interesting geological formation. The recreation area also features an open-air amphitheater overlooking the lake. Boating is permitted with electric motors only; no gasoline-powered boats are allowed.
The day use area operates year-round and requires a $3 per vehicle fee or an annual George Washington & Jefferson National Forest pass. Interagency Senior and Access passes provide 50% discounts on base campsite fees and day use fees. The campground operates with the help of volunteers and serves as a popular destination for fishing, hiking, and lakeside camping in Scott County, Virginia.
