Paul Grist State Park is a tranquil 1,080-acre park centered around a beautiful 100-acre lake surrounded by hardwood and southern pine woodlands. Located 17 miles north of Selma in Dallas County, the park offers a relaxing atmosphere for camping, fishing, paddling, and wildlife observation. The campground features 11 modern RV sites overlooking the lake, equipped with water, sewer hookups, and 30- and 50-amp electric service. For those preferring a more rustic experience, primitive tent camping sites are also available. A nearby bathhouse is ADA accessible and cleaned daily. Day-use opportunities include picnicking with barbecue grills throughout the area, and pavilions available for family reunions and special events. The park offers 15 to 20 miles of hiking trails that wind through the surrounding forest. Paul M. Grist is a featured site on the Alabama Black Belt Birding Trail, where visitors can spot waterfowl, songbirds, raptors, and both migrating and resident species. Other wildlife includes white-tailed deer, eastern wild turkey, and various amphibians and reptiles. Nearby attractions include historic Selma with its Civil Rights landmarks, The Old Depot Museum, and Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, the site of Alabama's first capital. The park is managed by Dallas County in partnership with Alabama State Parks.

Follow Alabama Highway 22 East from Selma. Signs lead directly to the park. Can also access via Dallas County Road 37 or Summerfield Road from Selma. Park address: 1546 Grist Road, Valley Grande, AL 36701.
