Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. Its 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties and two states and offer countless recreation opportunities for visitors.

Island Creek Park is also known as Island Creek Wounded Warrior Park. The Island Creek Wounded Warrior Park was established with the help of a partnership. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers partnered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States and the American Legion. The Wounded Warrior Park includes a handicap accessible shelter and vault toilet as well as a handicap accessible, covered fishing dock with handicap accessible boat boarding gates.
